Another project… yeah, like I needed one of those

For a few years, Kate has used Bruce’s old desk. By Bruce’s old desk, I mean one he used through high school over 35 years ago. It has worked ok, and been filled with crayons, paper, paints and an odd assortment of Klutz kits over the years. The work surface, however, was small and tended toward clutter.

“Sexy” pink. Looks more like Pepto-Bismol pink to me.

After buying Kate a new laptop for her birthday this year, we decided she could use a larger work surface. Not wanting to invest heavily in the desk she will be using until she is through high school (four more years), we bought a fairly cheap, put-it-together-and-finish-it-yourself-already wood desk with a single drawer. Then we let her pick out a color… Oy. She originally thought the dark pink with light pink circles would be great! but we talked her out of that one… mostly by not finishing it for a month. Then we hit on the idea of sponging on the second color, particularly as that first color was horrifyingly, shockingly pink!

Pepto-Bismol Sexy pink with a layer of Berries & Cream sponged over it.

Done, and done. And now loaded up with her pared down possessions. I think it needs a desk lamp though. Maybe something less colorful…

Finally. Pink desk in purple room -- knobs are unadulterated Berries & Cream, one final layer of sponging is a combination of Pepto-Bismol Sexy pink and Berries & Cream.

About pattiblaine

Raised under the name of Snyder in the upstate NY town of Vestal, I've worked as a typesetter, a fast food salad bar tender, an art reviewer, a waitress, a part-time nanny, and a very-bad-with-phones temp. Once upon a time I was all-but-thesis toward a Masters in Art History. Now I'm just a mom with a lot of fiber squirreled away throughout the house. We call it insulation. In 2013 I completed a life-long learning program at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, and am a postulant toward the diaconate in the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester, NY. In addition to coordinating volunteers for the soup kitchen, I volunteer as a tutor at a deeply impoverished city elementary school, and am a docent at the Memorial Art Gallery.
