What just happened again?

So. This has been a week. Duh. You probably knew that already. What I mean is that it’s been a terribly busy week with too many demands on my time. Some welcome, some not so much, some not unwelcome but not awfully fun either.

Yesterday, suddenly, and shortly before 9 p.m. I finished my paper on Moses and his theophany. I woke up this morning wishing I hadn’t been quite so quick to mail it off to the professor last night. Surely I could have added a sentence or two at the end to firm up the conclusion. And what was I thinking using the word “implacability”? Do I even know what that word means? Whatever. What’s done is done. I refuse to lose any sleep over it. Or I should say, any more sleep over it.

Just so you know the most important part of that last paragraph has little to do with the paper. It’s this phrase right here: “I woke up this morning…” Not in the middle of the night. This morning. Also? I slept. And at the risk of making the 12yo boys in all of us giggle: I slept long and hard for the first time since I don’t know when. Early September? It’s been a difficult and stressful couple of months. In fact, last night’s sleep was so coma-like that all day today I’ve felt kind of fuzzy and weird.

And so today I puttered. Straightened a few paper piles. Did a little laundry. Knit more this morning than I have in weeks (chugging away on a Bohus in black on ridiculously small needles). I did not go to yoga. I fell sound asleep in savasana last time I went (Columbus Day) and given the rainy rawness of the weather and my current state of being, I was fairly sure yoga class would not be the best place for me today.

Tomorrow I’ll do some yard-work: pull up the spent tomato plants and take down the bean trellises, cut back the butterfly bushes and bring in the geraniums. All stuff I should have done two weeks ago, I know. But where was the time? Maybe it was gathering up and waiting for me tomorrow. I do love surprise parties.

p.s. Just heard: I got an A… Damn, I love surprise parties.

About pattiblaine

Raised under the name of Snyder in the upstate NY town of Vestal, I've worked as a typesetter, a fast food salad bar tender, an art reviewer, a waitress, a part-time nanny, and a very-bad-with-phones temp. Once upon a time I was all-but-thesis toward a Masters in Art History. Now I'm just a mom with a lot of fiber squirreled away throughout the house. We call it insulation. In 2013 I completed a life-long learning program at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, and am a postulant toward the diaconate in the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester, NY. In addition to coordinating volunteers for the soup kitchen, I volunteer as a tutor at a deeply impoverished city elementary school, and am a docent at the Memorial Art Gallery.

Congrats on getting the paper done! How long are in class for?

Yay for deep sleep! Sometimes it just feels so good. However you run the risk of two things potentially happening: the next you either feel amazing or foggy-headed.

Nice photo, by the way! 🙂

Sometimes those sleeps – and the fuzzy days that follow – are so necessary. Congratulations on your A!
